Recently, I took up the self-love challenge on Cityogini. In this article, I will be reviewing the challenge, speaking about why I chose to take it up, and also mention my thoughts on the whole experience!
Why I picked this challenge
When I was asked to take one of the challenges, the self-love challenge struck out differently. I guess this was mostly because of my schedule. To give you an idea of it – I am a student doing double bachelors, a full-time job, and some freelancing on the side. With such a routine, I barely get time to myself hence the challenge.
Experience
After signing up for the challenge, when I looked at the schedule on the next screen, my first reaction was a sigh of relief. Everything required for the challenge was things that are readily available in almost all households. This made me more motivated to try out the challenge. The tasks mentioned seemed simple and did not require me to spend much time. That being said, they were also things that I would not have taken time out for otherwise. Throughout the week, I realized how easy it is to spare a few minutes to take care of myself and reflect upon things happening around me.
Often, we assume that self-care requires us to spend money or too much time when we could be doing something more productive. This week changed my point of view towards self-care. Taking out 20 minutes from the day for myself did not make me run behind on my other work, it just made me more positive and productive for the rest of the day. Obviously, I was not able to follow everything up to the mark, I had to change around a few things like use a packaged mask instead of making my own. However, I believe the purpose of this challenge is not to make you follow directions to the tee, it is more to remind you to take care of yourself.
Today, everyone is following such busy lifestyles that we forget those little things that matter. The pleasure of reading a book without doing anything on the side was just lost on me. Overall, I believe that the challenge, for me, did what it was supposed to – remind me what is important!
End thoughts
Before taking up the challenge, I was a little sceptical about how I am going to manage this extra “task” along with all others. Towards the end of the week, it did not seem like a task anymore. In fact, it turned out to be the time I would look forwards to in a day. Personally, I am glad having taken up this challenge and, I hope I remember these thoughts when I am slowly sliding back into my old “no time for tasks” habit!
