Dietary changes depending on seasons
With the change in seasons, the body's requirements also change.
Heat flow in the body changes with the seasons, resulting in a change in dietary requirements. We have put together a list of things you should add or avoid in your diet as seasons take their natural course.
Spring Season
With the rise in temperature, the patterns in the body shift from building energy (fat contents) to releasing it. Hence, the end of winter or the beginning of spring is the best time to start a new diet or to lose weight. Since the temperature is still in a transition phase and has not changed completely, keep warming spices like ginger and turmeric in your diet. You can also consider adding Neem or Cardamom to the diet to refresh the palate or destroy the sweet cravings in case you plan on losing weight this season. In general, try and avoid food with excess salt or high dairy content this season.
Summer
The summer season also brings with the summer vacations. The heat coupled with kids at home can result in lifestyle changes, including health. Although avoiding any dietary restrictions during the break can be tempting, it is also necessary to make sure that the body is getting sufficient energy recourses (food) to keep itself cool during this season. Summer also brings with it a myriad of emotional changes. The heat can make you more irritable or tender. So, to keep the body cool and maintain energy levels, keep the meals simple, light, and cooling. Fruits like watermelon, blueberries, and pomegranates do a great job of keeping your body clean. Additionally, adding coconut water to the diet also maintains hydration in the body.
Autumn
With the autumn season, the temperature begins to drop, and our body starts preparing for the winter. It does this by storing energy to keep the body warm during the cold season. For the body to do so, you can add Almonds, butternut squash, Ghee, Lemons, and sweet potatoes to your diet. You can also increase the intake of nourishing foods like soups and vegetables to keep you from falling victim to the sudden deficiency in your body from all the heat loss.
Winter
The drop in temperature brings makes our body more susceptible to cold. You will also find yourself craving more carbohydrate-rich food as your body's way to start building energy sources and insulate a layer of fat to keep you warm. Add spices like cloves, turmeric, and black pepper to keep your body warm. You can also add honey and ginger to that mix to keep you safe from the flu season.
